Williams Named Mississippi Airports Professional of the Year as MAA Conference Comes to Coastal Mississippi

October 1, 2026

Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport Executive Director Clay Williams was named the 2026 Mississippi Airports Association Professional of the Year Thursday during MAA’s Annual Conference at Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi.

The award recognizes leadership and contributions to the betterment of aviation in Mississippi. Nominees are submitted by MAA members and evaluated by a committee of past recipients.

Williams currently serves as president of MAA, where advocacy for Mississippi airports is a major focus of his leadership. He has been actively involved in the association’s legislative efforts for several years, working to strengthen relationships with state and federal leaders and advance funding and policy priorities for airports across Mississippi. As president, he has emphasized giving Mississippi airports a stronger, unified voice and educating policymakers on their role in economic development, tourism and transportation.

“This recognition is especially meaningful because it comes from colleagues who understand the opportunities and challenges facing airports across our state,” Williams said. “One of MAA’s greatest strengths is our ability to speak with a unified voice and ensure decision-makers understand the important role Mississippi airports play in the communities they serve.”

Williams has led Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport for 14 years. During his tenure, GPT has expanded air service, welcomed new airlines and destinations, and secured significant federal, state and RESTORE Act funding for infrastructure and capital improvements. Air service milestones include the addition of Sun Country Airlines and Breeze Airways, expanded nonstop options and continued growth of GPT’s partnership with Beau Rivage, Harrah’s Gulf Coast and their charter air programs.

The recognition comes as MAA welcomes a record 250 registrants to Coast Mississippi for its 2026 Annual Conference. The conference brings together airport leaders, engineers, consultants, government representatives and aviation businesses for education, collaboration and discussion of issues affecting aviation throughout Mississippi.
