TSA PreCheck Begins at GPT

GULFPORT — The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced the start of TSA PreCheck operations at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport (GPT). TSA PreCheck is an expedited screening program that allows select GPT flyers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and keep 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels in their carry-on bag.

Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport becomes one of 150 airports in the country where passengers can experience expedited screening. The airlines serving GPT that participate in this program are: American Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, Sun Country and US Airways.

TSA PreCheck is part of the agency’s efforts to focus on its resources and improve the passenger experience at security checkpoints by applying new intelligence-driven, risk-based screening procedures and enhancing its use of technology. Through a variety of risk-based initiatives such as TSA PreCheck, TSA provides effective security while gaining efficiencies and improving the travel experience for millions of passengers each week.

“TSA PreCheck is an example of our commitment to provide both world class security and world class customer service to the public we serve and keep safe every day,” said TSA’s Federal Security Director for the State of Mississippi David Wynn.

“Having TSA PreCheck at our airport is a great convenience for our passengers,” said Gulfport-Biloxi Regional Airport Authority Executive Director Clay Williams. “We appreciate the partnership with TSA to provide many of our travelers this expedited screening experience.”

In order to enroll, the TSA PreCheck application process allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to go through a pre-enrollment process online at tsa.gov and visit an application center to provide biographic information (e.g. a government issued ID showing current address), be fingerprinted, and provide a U.S. passport, a U.S. birth certificate or valid immigration documentation, as well as pay an application fee of $85 for a five-year membership.

More than 1,400 people across the state of Mississippi, including 690 in Gulfport have enrolled in the program. An enrollment center is located in Gulfport at 477 32nd Street, Gulfport, MS 39507-2408. The hours are Monday-Friday: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Once approved, passengers will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) and will have the opportunity to utilize TSA PreCheck lanes at security checkpoints at 150 participating airports and on 11 major airlines: Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America.

Members of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Trusted Traveler program (Global Entry, NEXUS or SENTRI) already pre-qualify for TSA PreCheck, and will utilize their PASSID as their KTN.

Passengers are encouraged to save their KTN in each frequent flyer profile. Additionally, those who purchase their tickets via a third-party Web site or travel agency should enter their KTN each time they make a reservation.

If TSA determines a passenger is eligible for expedited screening through the TSA PreCheck lane where they will undergo expedited screening, which includes being able to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt and to keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels bag in a carry-on.

As always, TSA continues to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures both seen and unseen throughout the airport. All travelers will be screened and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.
